Hidden Colour – All You Need To Know!

Hidden Colour Hair Trend: What Is It & How Do I Get The Look? The Experts at Voodou Hair Salons in Liverpool Explain All

Fancy a hairstyle with the ‘wow factor’, then look no further than a hidden colour!

Hidden colour is a secret panel of colour which hides under a layer of your hair to be revealed only when you want to show it off!  Run your hands through your hair and voila… beautiful flashes of colour peek through!

If you want the look, talk to the colour experts at Voodou Hair Salons in Liverpool. But first, let us explain exactly what you can expect when you ask for a hidden colour at Voodou.

What is hidden colour or secret rainbow?

This is a hidden panel of colour which sits underneath the top layer of your hair.  You might get a glimpse of the colour showing through – or you can surprise others by wearing your hair up or in a ponytail to show off the secret colour in all its glory.

What other names are there for hidden colours?

Talk to your Voodou colour technician about the look you want us to create.  It goes by various names –  hidden colour, hidden rainbow (if you want multiple colours added), secret colour, underlights or a hidden panel.

How do I get underlights or hidden colours in my hair?

After a thorough consultation, we will pre-lighten the ‘hidden’ area.  If you have naturally dark hair or coloured hair, this may take more than one appointment.  Once your hair is light we will add the hair colour or colours you want using Redken City Beats. After the colours have developed, we will give your locks a thorough wash before giving you a professional cut & finish.  The whole process will take between 3-6 hours, depending on the colour or colours you want and how dark your hair is to start with.

How should I prepare for my hair colour appointment?

Book in for a full, free consultation so we can assess the condition of your hair and advise you on what is achievable.  The health of your hair is always a priority for us. We will also ask you to come in for a quick skin test at least 48 hours before your hair colour appointment to make sure you will not suffer any reactions to the chemical processes.

How long will my secret hair colour last?

Vivid colours will gradually fade to pastel tones after about six washes.  We will recommend the right shampoos and conditioners to use to try and keep your colour looking vibrant for longer.   We also recommend you wash with cool or cold water and keep hair washing to once a week, if possible.  As your hair grows, you will also need to have your roots touched up, which can also be a lengthy process.

How much does it cost to have a hidden hair colour panel added?

Expect to spend between £180 and £300.  The cost depends on the condition of your hair.  However, if you have Virgin / Natural / Blonde hair, the cost will be at the cheaper end as you may not need a pre-lightener.  Check out our prices at each of our salons for Pre Lightener, Paint Box, Full Head Colour and Cut & Finish.

Bear in mind, we have lots of offers to help you with the cost including our Half Price Colour services on Thursdays and Sundays at Voodou, Last Minute Deals and New Client Offer with 50% OFF.

I’m not ready for a hidden colour – what else could I try instead?

Talk to your colour specialist about having a few slices of colour added to your hair… or maybe add a few highlights first to get used to the colours you are thinking of adding.
