Round Face Shape

Deflecting the roundness of your face is the key to a good hairstyle for a round face shape. The best hair upstyle for round faces is to do like Adele and add height to lengthen the face and keep sides a little tighter.  Adele has opted for a large backcombed beehive and softens the look with a wavy fringe.  The style is very retro glam on Adele and a great hairstyle for round faces.

Generally speaking very short hairstyles won’t suit a round face shape as it will highlight the face shape even more.  If you are getting itchy feet and want to trim your long locks Kelly Clarkson shows us how ladies with a round face shape can opt for a short haircut. Kelly’s long graduated bob is a great hairstyle for round faces.  The back of her hair is tapered in tighter and the front left slightly longer, elongating the face making her face appear narrower and slimmer.

Long hair is the best hair length for round faces as it will naturally make the face appear longer and thinner.  Mila Kunis has chosen to curl her long brown hair adding body and movement to her hairstyle. An off centre parting softens the hairstyle.

Long Face Shape

The best hairstyles for long face shapes need width and body for a more proportionate look.  Charlize Theron shows us how she wears her short hair with her long face shape. Charlize has finished her short hair with lots of body and large waves to widen the hair making her face appear more in proportion.

Generally long straight hair is a no go for you if you have a long face shape but Kate Beckinsale looks amazing with her long straight hair.  If you would like hair like Kate’s, her blunt straight fringe is a must-have.  Kate’s fringe cuts her face short making her face appear smaller in length.  Fringes are great for long face shapes as they can hide a long forehead.

Sarah Jessica Parker breaks all the rules for long face shapes with this upstyle.  The slick back, tight upstyle looks amazing on the style icon.  Sarah has kept her upstyle low and wide meaning it shortens and widens her face leading us to believe she has a perfect face shape.

Oval Face Shape

An oval face shape is definitely the most versatile face shape.  Jennifer’s trademark long textured hair is always a must-have hairstyle.  Adding layers that accentuate the cheekbones and the chin is the best hairstyle for an oval face shape and will be very flattering.

Katherine Heigl wears her strawberry blonde hair up here. The actress has opted for a deep side parting with a loose bun to the opposite side. Katherine has kept her hair in proportion in height and width which is key to this face shape. Going too high or wide will make the face appear out of proportion.

Rhianna has her hair cut short back and sides with lots of length on top.  The added length on top keeps her hairstyle versatile so she can change her look. Rhianna’s swept fringe is flattering against her face and softens the potentially ‘hard’ haircut. This haircut shows off Rhianna’s perfect bone structure.

Square Face Shape

If you like long hair and have a square face shape then keeping the hair thin like Gwyneth Paltrow has done will make the face appear longer.  If the hair has too much body it will appear wide and ‘boxy’ looking. Gwyneth wears her hair with a centre parting and plenty of layers keeping her hair with the ‘tousled’ look.

Keira Knightley wears her short hair in a bob.  Her waves keep her hair cut looking casual. Plenty of body keeps Keira’s hair interesting and this is a great hair length for square face shapes that softens her jawbone.

Olivia Wilde’s centre-parted chignon is a gorgeous hair upstyle for square face shapes.  Olivia’s loose curly upstyle is casual yet classy and is very flattering for her square face shape.

Fringes

Whatever your face shape, there is a fringe to suit you!

Alexa Chung has a typical peek-a-boo fringe. Alexa’s graduated fringe complements her mid-length ombre hair perfectly. This style of fringe will suit square and long face shapes best.

Jennifer Lawrence opts for a long side swept fringe. Her fringe is casual and easily blended into the hairstyle making it very versatile.  The swept fringe can soften any hairstyle and is very flattering on square and round face shapes.

Taylor Swift has chosen a blunt straight fringe.  This is the most dramatic fringe and will update a long hair style. The blunt fringe looks great on long and oval face shapes.
